Training of Trainers

On 25 & 26 February, partners of the Social Bugs project gathered at Aproximar’s headquarters in Lisbon for a Training of Trainers focused on shaping the future of the Social Bugs learning programme and strengthening knowledge around the edible insect sector and social entrepreneurship.

Over the two days, partners exchanged ideas, tested learning activities and explored how insect farming connects with sustainability, circular economy principles, entrepreneurship and social impact. Discussions covered key topics such as insect species selection, farm design, risk management, food safety, legislation and market opportunities.

A central focus was how to transform complex technical knowledge into engaging and accessible learning experiences. The training also explored how future participants can be supported not only in understanding insect production, but also in identifying opportunities, developing business ideas and linking them to broader social and environmental goals.

The second day highlighted social innovation and sustainable business models, with discussions on stakeholder engagement, participatory governance and impact measurement. A Community of Practices session brought real examples from the edible insect sector, connecting theory with practical experience.

A big thank you to Aproximar for hosting us in Lisbon and to all partners for the energy, expertise and collaboration that helped move the Social Bugs training forward.
