Bugging Denmark
Bugging Denmark is an urban cricket farm located in Copenhagen, Denmark. The farm produces edible house crickets (A. domesticus) and yellow mealworms (T. molitor) for human consumption, was founded in 2016 and is dedicated to introducing edible insects as a sustainable source of protein in the European diet.
As an urban farm, interacting and collaborating with the surrounding community is an important part of BD’s activities. As such, BD is active in a variety of outreach activities including serving insects at open house events, food fairs and festivals, including insect farming workshops for children at the Experimentarium Science Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. BD also operates food stands at large Danish festivals such as COPENHELL and Roskilde Festival where thousands of people are introduced to food with insects for the first time. For instance, at Roskilde Festival, BD serves 5000 cricket risottos in four days.
Furthermore, BD produces and markets cricket-containing products with a focus on health, sustainability, taste and a low level of processing. This includes a Mediterranean-inspired cricket paste with shiitake mushrooms and tomato and an Asian cricket-curry paste. These products make it easy and convenient to cook with crickets in one’s own kitchen.
And as we all know, once you have eaten your first cricket, you will be ready for more.
